Autograph letter signed from Edward Patteson, East Sheen, to Henry Ellis [manuscript], 1836 November 11.

Letter concerns Patteson's copy of Florio's Montaigne, supposed to contain a Shakespeare signature. On leaf 2r, a note signed "H.E." (presumably Henry Ellis) about examining this volume, noting that in all the Ireland forgeries, the name was spelled "Shakspeare" whereas the signature in Patteson's possession is "Shakspere." Also, Frederic Madden's article on the subject, "Observations on an autograph of Shakspeare, and the orthography of his name," taken from Archaeologia, 1837.
